OOC Chat - Page 7 Empty Re: OOC Chat

Post by Claymore Sun May 17, 2009 9:07 pm

My job keeps me from getting much of anything done over the weekend, OC or IC. Razz However, that's no longer an issue for tonight. And welcome new people! Nice to have some fresh blood, it's been a while. Nice to see how such a new site is attracting fresh blood so quickly too... still can't believe how fast this place is growing.

Hey... while I'm posting, I wonder if there's anyone here who might be willing to do a little homework for me. I'm building a character sheet generator for this site. (Sorry, due to popular demand, aka the Admins' insistence, it's just VtM for the moment. It'll eventually be every system, but one thing at a time...) There's only one function left that I need it to do that I haven't already figured out before I can get this thing to jump through hoops for me. That is, finding some specific text within a thread. Anyone know enough about javascript to offer some theories here? I've been chipping away at this thing for about a month, and for the first time, I'm completely stumped. I don't like that. It's not a good feeling. Sad

One idea I've been toying with is the 'parse' command. So far though, I've only been able to search a URL or a string. Little reluctant to bring an entire page in as a string, but that's another possability. Or a way to tell the generator what post number to look for. That's another thing. If it knows the post number, I can get it to find the right text. And by taking a peek at the page source, you'll see that the post numbers might be a little easier to get a hold of, particularly the most recent one (variable name 'lt'). My original plan was to make the post actually contain it's own number, because I can get it immediately after the sheet is submitted, and just add it to the contents of that sheet. Then I realized that getting it to find that number again... just to reference and open itself for editing... was actually a catch 22. For those of you who actually know what I'm talking about, please catch me in the chat or something.

Meantime, I'll be updating this game.

You say the boss and you? Razz Then how come I wasn't informed? Or are you suggesting Claymore is the boss? Sad

Good to see new players looming around and joining. Claymore's requiem game is pretty damn good. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Bonjour,

Pardon the interruption. The name's Dante (ooc) and I'll hopefully be joining the you'all shortly. I've been snooping around the forums for about a month now and it looks like you've got a wonderful game and group. The boss and I have been going back and forth, he can be one elusive bugger. *smile* Cant wait to see you all in-game!

In game I should be Lot Dolon.

Nah, I was just in a bit of a bad mood when I read your post, having to deal with the death of my girlfriend's grandfather, so I sounded angry back then. Sorry.

The roller is really just a proving ground for concepts that I plan on using in the sheet generator. Besides, I've done hardly anything on that either during finals week. Razz However, finals are done, so I actually have time for both now. I'm about to review sheets for a couple new players, purplegeekness and warseer. Josh, your thread is kind of waiting for you. And Gypsy, welcome back! =D I thought we'd lost you. Donna, Jedi tells me you still log in from time to time. Are you still with us, or just feel like keeping tabs once in a while? Because I'll post for you too if you're still here.

Yea. Claymore. How about posting. If you'd spend half as much time posting as you do working on that dice roller that we don't need anyway, your game would have more posts then TBLA.

Very Happy

If you mean you're going to have to leave, I'll understand. Though I'd hate to see you go. You'll have to forgive the tone of frustration in my last post, as you're not the first person who's too rooted in rpol to stick with us here. One of the more regular players though, so you'd be missed. But I like it here, and I've got a couple new players who are too rooted in this site to move to rpol. So I'm afraid we're kind of committed to WDGames now.

There may come a time when I open up a spinoff game on rpol. Maybe a neighboring city or a Mage game or something, if I ever get around to learning that system. Because the one thing rpol has over this site that I can't fix with code is a larger potential fan-base. But seeing as how this site has tripled in size over the past couple weeks suggests that by the time I get around to that, I won't need to tap rpol for more players. I'll keep your sheet on file in case you ever change your mind. Take care.

I already have over a dozen other games on RPOL I'm playing in as well, and I'm running one there too. It just makes it easier for me to keep all my games in one place.

Is that a problem?

Oh for crap's sake... I know this is a longshot, but for those who simply must have easy access to rpol besides the address bar, does this help?

This way you would only need to make our site your homepage. =D

Sadly, half my players are ones that only want to play on one site (one of them being my girlfriend), and they already have several games on RPOL they are playing in.

Sorry.

Gauge, and anyone else really, to get the sheet looking right is a font command.
Code:

[size=12][font=Courier New]
Your Sheet Here
[/font][/size]

It was a side effect to getting the embedded dice roller window in that thread to show up first on the screen. I could'nt flip it for just one thread, it had to be the entire forum. Not sure if I'm going to keep it like this though.

And I'm going to drop Gypsy a PM on rpol, and see if that gets her attention. She's suppose to be my new Hound! Sad

Also, a quick update folks, this is the last week of the semester for me. After that, I'll have all the time in the world to focus on this game. But in the meantime, posting here is going to be kind of slow.

By the way, Penny, I hear you're pretty good at Java. Mind if I get some advice from you for a final project here? If you use instant message, if you don't mind, please meet me there. All my IM names are here.
