Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
Duncan eyed Ed suspiciously when he mentioned the idea of Obfuscate, but decided this situation was risky enough as it was. The fact that Ed had approached him out of the blue suddenly came to mind again though, and Duncan had half a mind to read his colors if it wouldn't have been so obvious. "No, I guess that about does it for me."
Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
For a moment Roger stood thinking, rubbing his hand against the side of his head before resting it against his palm. "Hmm, I guess you're right. No more complaints from me." He looked at Duncan to see if he had any more suggestions.

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
Ed looked at both of you a little funny. "It'll be daylight. You're going to be on the bottom of the Pacific. Even if a Fisherman is right above you, do you think you're just going to jump up and tangle yourselves in a net, or bite off a giant fish head?" Then he frowned. "If you bring up another boat, they'll see it, and we'll get caught. If we bring up a truck, or a van, or something else that doesn't belong there, they'll see it, and we won't get caught. You can imagine that any security there is going to be looking for our asses, just waiting for us to pop up. They can't know for certain that we don't work during the day so anything unusual will be investigated too."
Ed's brow furrowed. He folded his arms across his chest. "Believe me, I'd like a submarine, or a giant Obsta-whatever-a-Nos-does trick too, but since ain't none of us got that, this is going to have to do...unless of course either of you got a better idea."

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
With something of an embarrassed look, Roger took the bag from his shoulder and slid it to the ground, before taking a step forward to look at the old map. He listened attentively to Ed, and then Duncan, before chiming in, "I've got to say I'm not too keen on the idea either. What's the chance of genuine fisherman working in the area and discovering us?"

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
Duncan gave up on trying to figure out the gear and plopped it back on the table to look at the plans Ed had laid out. "Aside from arguing the opacity of water at that depth, I'm not sure I understand why we have to wait out the entire day there. Why not just leave the guns there and come back for them? And how will we know this fisherman from any that might end up there by chance?"
Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
Ed watched the two of you with a wry smirk on his face. "I take it neither of you done nothin' like this before?" Without really waiting on a response (There was no point in answering. Neither of you had, and judging from how well Ed had been able to read everyone and the situation so far, he already knew the answer to his own question.) Ed shined one of the lights on the map he had unfolded. It was an overhead view of the pier, which was faded and old. There were creases in the paper and you got the impression it had been in a locker or tucked away in someone's desk for some time.
"I'll go over your gear with you in a second or two... but right now I want you to take a look at this. We'll go over my plan, and then take it from there. Cool?" Ed waited for everyone to assemble. "Ok this is pretty simple. It's a layout of the pier... The boat we're after is going to be here." He pointed...
After fifteen minutes or so, both of you had a pretty good idea of what Ed was planning to do... You were going to insert from further down the pier, swim under the adjacent boat, climb aboard Tatiyanna's fishing boat with crates of weapons, steal as many as you can get, move about 500 meters away from the pier to a pile of rocks you would be able to find by following a rope, wait there for the rest of the night, and then when the sun goes down, activate the GPS. After that, it would be another fifteen minute wait until a fishing boat came along and scooped everyone up. It sounded tricky, especially the part about being underwater for an entire day and not being stumbled on, but Ed promised it would be okay. He'd had his fisherman come by the same spot every day for the last two months all within an hour of the same time. Anyone looking would just assume he was part of the natural scenery.
Then he asked for any questions.

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
Both Roger's smile, and the arm holding the radio, dropped. "Well, yeah, err ... we can test them later then." And with that he turned to pack the radio in with the rest of his gear, pressing them it down as deep as he could into the waterproof bag before closing it and slinging it over his shoulder.

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
As a Mortal, Duncan had been diving once while on vacation. He certainly was no expert, having had a guide at the time. But he knew enough to know he'd have some trouble getting in the suit without soap.
After a minute of hopping around like an idiot with only one leg in, and the other stuck half way, he managed to get suited up when Roger started testing the radio. Duncan was still focused on putting the equipment together when he answered. "I'm standing right here."

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
Ed watched while everyone went about handling their gear. He was waiting on everyone else. He did smirk when Jon radioed Duncan. Duncan could hear him plain as day, even without his radio turned on. (He hadn't picked up yet, much less turned his radio on.) The two weren't more then a few feet apart.

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
Releasing his face from its former scrunched up position, with his fragrant passenger now left behind, Roger looked at the two men for a moment with an expression of unease but a slight feeling of pity. Then, following Duncan back into the building, he murmured, "You know, of all the crimes I thought we might end up committing tonight, assaulting two bums isn't what I had in mind."
Coming behind Duncan, it wasn't until he stepped to the side that he caught view of the laden table. He'd seen one or two of the more impressive items before, but only in a courtroom. But he had to admit that they looked far more interesting outside of a clear plastic sachet, and what remained inside him of the little boy in every man couldn't wait to pick some of the objects up.
Holding one of the wetsuits in front of him as one might a new shirt, he checked to see that it would roughly fit before probing it with his fallow fingers for any holes or weak spots. He did the same with one of the eye masks, making sure it fitted but not too tightly. He'd heard that many of his kin used things like these to obscure their faces from the view of Kine, and after he put it away wondered whether a pair might be useful in the future. With a few quick pushes and tugs he tested the strength of the crowbar, hammer and rope, before packing them in the waterproof bag with everything else. Finally he reached for one of the radios, and motioning towards Duncan with it in his hand gave it a quick try,
"Testing, testing, can you read me, over?"

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
No sooner had Duncan felt a moment of sympathy for the unconscious bum than any thought about it left him. Duncan was more distracted by the display Ed had put on, and couldn't hide the shock on his face. He looked like he was about to say something, but drew a blank when he faild to find a tactful way to say, 'so you really have your shit together after all'. So as he approached, he just picked his jaw up off the floor, and tried one of the masks on.
Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
While on your way outside the two of you had a few seconds to grumble at each other or to say anything else that needed said. Duncan's bum groaned once but otherwise neither was responsive in a way that mattered to the two of you. Besides crickets and possibly God, there was nothing here that saw either of you and your actions. Ed was right, this was a good meeting place if you were up to no good, something both of you clearly were.
When you both came back, Ed was in the final touches of putting the things out on the table. He had three wetsuits, a trio of flashlights, one of which he clicked on and off right in Jon's face. He had a crowbar, a ball hammer, a stack of glow sticks, three what looked like, waterproof radios, big goggle eyed face masks, and three scrunched up waterproof bags. "Alright," he started, popping a big nylon rope down and then waving you both over. "Come get a bag and start getting your shit squared away. You'll need to make sure everything seals up, works, and fits right. It's better to do now and make sure then to let Mr. Murphy tag along when we get there."
The next things Ed pulled out were just a little shocking. They were small, sawed off shotgun sized gas operated harpoons.

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
The sight, not to mention the smell of the two bums caused Roger to hesitate for a second, and he had no problem in letting Duncan go first. Softly setting down his duffel bag - still unsure what it contained - he first tried to get the remaining bum up on his feet before lifting him onto his shoulder. He followed Duncan outside and deposited his cargo where the former detective had stopped.

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
Duncan sighed as he looked on the sorry sight. He felt a little hypocritical, arguably being something of a junkie himself now. But nonetheless, he'd seen more than his share of people who've traded in their lives for a fix. It was strange. These two people seemed more human to him than those he usually feeds on. In any case, he knelt down next to one of them, tossed the needle aside, and hoisted him up over his shoulder to carry him outside.
Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
Duncan's look of utter confusion at what would have stained the floor was plastered all over his face. Even the unskilled could see he was confused. The skilled - such as a lawyer - could read his confusion like a picture book. Ed frowned, reading the same book. His words were directed at the Nosferatu. "I was here last night," he whispered while cracking the door open.
When he opened the door, Ed sighed heavily. He pushed it the rest of the way open. "What the fuck?!?" It was his normal tone. Inside the room was the chair he was looking for. There were two drunks, clearly passed out. One of them was face down on the floor holding a unique bottle. It was spilled on the floor. The other one was passed out and leaning against the wall in a seated position. He also had a needle in his arm. "Fuckin' junkies. Fuckin' drunk ass junkies." Ed kicked the one face down on the ground with the bottle. It groaned in response and mumbled something unintelligable.
"Come get these fuckers out of here," Ed groaned without looking back. "Leave the bags. I gotta setup anyway."

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
Watching as Duncan examined the blood, Roger knelt down to have a look himself, although he was reluctant to touch it. "How old do you think it is?" he asked. As the door began to creak under Ed's exertion, he joined the former detective against the wall. He waited as Ed worked, his head darting in a new direction with each jolt of the door and the sound produced by it.

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
Duncan skimmed his fingers over the spot, and rubbed them together to get some sense from the texture. Something about the smell was nagging at the back of his mind, but he just couldn't put his finger on it. When the door started creaking, Duncan cringed. It wasn't terribly loud, but in a room quiet enough to hear a pin drop, it may as well have been the sound of a car crashing through the wall. So he stood up and took a position opposite Ed, in case something was ready to meet them on the other side. Something about the dead silence of this building was starting to give him a bad vibe.

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
The light from the Flashlight wasn't nearly enough to cause even a second worth of blindness. In fact, the light was designed with stealth in mind, and from forty or fifty yards away, it would be hard to notice unless you were specifically looking for it. Creepy enough, the rest of the old church was quiet. There wasn't much to see, except for the small bit that Ed and Duncan were looking at.
Closer examination of the spot on the floor did reveal a slightly memorable scent. (Claymore, you can roll Intelligence + Science at diff 8 to remember it.) While you did your investigation there, Ed probed around the door with the tip of his knife like his fingers were probing a virgin on prom night. Finally he tried the door. It was locked. He looked around at everyone kind of funny. He put a finger to his lips. Then he spoke in a barely audible tone. "It's locked."
He tried the door again, and forced it open. It opened just a crack. Ed moved it three or four inches and then stopped suddenly as the hinges started to creak.

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
Picking up one of the duffel bags, Roger waited for Ed to walk ahead before weighing it up with one arm and patting his other hand around it to guess what might be inside. As Ed was shunting the door open, he kept one hand on his balaclava, but pulled away in a relaxed motion when the Brujah's exertion revealed an empty darkness. He squinted to notice anything, moving slowly forward as he did so.
The flash of harsh red light broke his quiet vigil, and after turning his head momentarily to avoid the glare, he looked up at where Ed was. He slowly followed Duncan up the stairs, but quickened his pace when he heard the concern in Ed’s tone. Each of his increasingly loud steps sending jolts of fear through him, pushing him to move faster. Not wanting to disturb either of the men, he stopped behind them and craned his head forward to get a look at the spot occupying their attention.

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
Duncan immediately looked up, directly above whatever Ed was looking at to see if something might have dripped. Water damage from a leaky roof could still look wet in dim light, so he was expecting to find a hole or similar stains on the cieling. When Ed pulled the knife, Duncan made sure to stay behind him, figuring he'd only get in the way if he had to use it. But after he knelt down, Duncan peaked around the corner for the missing chair. Ed covered all the basics, and McAnders assumed the smell of blood would be hard to miss, so he didn't bother to sniff it. But after a very brief glance for the chair, he approached the spot on the floor for a closer look.

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
After the weak pat down and search from Duncan, Ed sort of looked at him with a frown and then moved away from the car back towards the van. He didn't look over his shoulder. Instead he pointed at the open side door of the van, presumably at the duffel bags there. "Come on, I guess. Bring them inside. It looks all suspicious out here when we could be inside and outta sight."
Ed tried the door. It appeared to be locked in some fashion, so with a grunt, he gave it a shove with his shoulder. The door came free but not off of it's hinges. The only thing visible on the other side was darkness. Clicking on a military style flashlight with a red lens cover, Ed stood in the doorway for a second or two. Then after deciding it was okay, he motioned for the both of you to follow. Once everyone was inside, he closed the door. He scanned around the interior of the old church with his light. Again satisfied, he rounded a corner and went up to the balcony on the second floor.
Upstairs, he used the light yet again to scan around the room. A pigeon flapped it's wings and flew from the railing towards one of the closed up window sils. Approaching one of the side rooms, Ed stopped in his tracks. He held up a hand and carefully flashed the light on the floor in front of the doorway. All of the sudden, everyone could feel the hair on the back of their neck standing up. It was sphincter puckering time. "Hold it." Ed hissed. His light went over the door again, then the balcony, and then back towards the floor in front of the door. "Last time I was here, there was a chair there. An'it looks like there is somethin' on the floor. Whaddya think?" He flashed the light over in Duncan's direction and then back at the floor. Ed didn't wait, but he did draw the knife from his hip and approach the door more carefully. He sniffed a few times and then slowly knelt down. He touched the floor and then looked at his fingertips. "It's dry now. It ain't no piss, no gas, and no paint."

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
A little surprised by the former detective's words, although not by Ed's response, Roger shifted uncomfortably as the Brujah spoke. He didn't really know Ed, in fact no one he'd spoken to in the past seemed to know all that much about him. All he did know was that he was older and definitely far tougher than him, and he had little desire to piss such a person off. After Duncan had finished his search he shot him a puzzled look, before waiting for Ed to turn back round and delve into further details.

Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
Maybe it was the disbelief that anyone offering aid to an unproven Neonate could possibly be on the level, or just paranoia that comes with the job. Then again, maybe he was right, and Ed's anger was just a cover. Duncan was far from convinced, but either way, no good could come from arguing it further. So he just kept his mouth shut and went through the motions of a pat-down, and not really expecting to find anything. When he was done, he took a step back and rested his hands in his coat pockets, just listening.
Re: Ed's Plan - Duncan & Roger
The moment Duncan saw the look on Ed's face, followed by the undoubtedly similar look on Roger's face after making his comment about Ed not knowing anything, or hiding something, he immediately regretted saying it. In fact, it dawned on him that it was a remark just like that which landed him dismembered and in a garbage bag by a Lasombra. It also dawned on Duncan that perhaps he should learn to do as everyone else around him, because clearly he was the ony trying to hide something as well as not knowing what he's talking about.
If that weren't quite enough to make him change his stance, Ed's response to Duncan clearly was. "I know exactly what I'm talkin' about and what I'm doin' ya shit. I'm bent on the hood of a car giving you a sign of trust, so ya can see I'm not fucking a pair of virgins like you over - somethin' you wouldn't get from anyone else in the city." Ed's hands didn't move from the car, but he did look annoyed at Duncan. His eyes darted to Roger, who he didn't seem quite as annoyed with. He then looked at Duncan again. "So are ya gonna stand there like a pretentious twit?"
