Rules Deviations Empty Rules Deviations

Post by Penny Dreadful Wed May 20, 2009 7:04 pm

This is where I'll list any deviations I make from the published rules.

  • Outcast Ratings: They don't exist anymore. I find it silly to try and put a number to something that should be handled with roleplaying
  • The Mists: They won't bring people from other worlds into Ravenloft, nor can you use them to leave the Realms of Dread. All characters and NPCs are natives of the realm. Beyond that the Mists work normally, so they can still take you to different places within Ravenloft and so on.
  • Races: In line with this, there are no subraces. If you want to be an evil elf or dwarf, by all means go for it, but your evil deeds will be because you want to be evil, rather than because you are a drow and really you're just misunderstood.
  • Religion: There are no deities as such. There are certainly demons and devils, as well as celestials such as planetars, but they are more abstract embodiments of the concepts they serve, rather than the minions of any particular deity. Divine magics works as normal, except that divine spellcasters do not need to choose a patron deity. They gain their spells from the pure force of their conviction.

    • Clerics can pick any domains they wish, although it should of course make sense within their character concept. A lawful good city-dwelling cleric shouldn't have the domains of evil and nature, at least not without an impeccable in-character explanation. The don't need to exactly worship the air or lawfulness or whatever, but these things should be cornerstones of their personalities and values.

    • Paladins should of course believe in ideals such as good, justice, the rule of law, and so on. They obviously don't pick domains, but similarly to clerics these ideals should form a sort of framework for the rest of their personality.

    • Druids and Rangers gain their spells from nature itself, which is a much more active presence than in other settings perhaps. You won't see outlandish things like forests uprooting themselves to march on a city, but if a community is harming nature in some way, it will make its displeasure felt quite clearly. And its displeasure is often lethal.

This list is by no means complete and it will be expanded or altered as needed.
