Re: Deuce In Your Shoes - Paige
I pressed my index finger to my upper lip and narrowed my eyes as though I found something very interesting across the room as I waited for the urge to smirk, even giggle, to pass. I'm not a fan of beatings. I composed myself, returned eye contact and began to speak as if someone had hit fast forward on my mouth. "Domain:'Thy domain is thine own concern. All others owe thee respect while in it. None may challenge thy word while in thy domain.' So...nothing can go on in the Prince's domain without his permission including the creation of Progeny or we're both dead meat. Well, yanno what I mean. So, that's Progeny. Erm, oh...Accounting:'Those thou create are thine own children. Until thy Progeny shall be Released, thou shall command them in all things. Their sins are thine to endure.' So, the Sire is like the Boss of Everything until it's determined otherwise and if their childe screws up it's on them." Shew! I caught my breath and tried to resist the urge to grimmace and cover my face as if I'd just thrown a baseball that was headed for a car window.

Amy returned your smile just as sweetly. She had the irritating habit of being saccharine when she was angry. "Wonderful. That's close enough. Now, how about Domain, Progeny and Accounting?" Amy leaned forward on her elbows and looked at you warmly. Somehow you had the impression that you had barely escaped a brutal beating at your Sire's hands, and her beatings were nasty. She rarely showed it, but she had a helluva temper. Of course, you did too, that was part of being a Brujah. You lacked the couple hundred years to build on that temper and strengthen your disciplines and powers to her level though.
Still, you couldn't help but feel a little smug about her response. A happy sire meant a happy childe.

Ugh, always so starched and buttoned-up this one and what’s with the pickle face? Kept under lock and key; what the frig else was I going to do? "Of course I did the reading you requested." I smiled sweetly, fidgeting with my earring. "The Book of Nod states: Thou shalt not reveal yourselves Gods to the children of earth."

Amy nodded but also made a face, as if she had bitten into something sour. "According to John that is correct. However, as an educated and civilized woman you must be mindful of other interpretations. Such as those from the Book of Nod which I had suggested you read..." The Book of Nod, was some sort of vampire bible in a way. Caine killed Abel. Caine refused to ask for forgiveness in God's eyes, and was cursed multiple times, finally winding up as a vampire. He was the fabled progenitor of your entire species. The Father of all vampires. The Book of Nod is part story, part mandates, philosophy and part religion.
"What is the Tradition of Masquerade according to the texts I made you read? You did read them correct?" Amy's look was getting harder. For weeks you had been studying these Traditions, and she had not allowed you out of the house except to feed, and even then you were supervised by her or one of her trusted ghouls, Jonah. She looked at you critically while she waited on a response.

“Thou shall not reveal thy true nature to those not of the Blood. Doing so shall renounce thy claims of Blood.” I recited without a thought. I hoped the slight smile on my lips hid the anxiety in my eyes as I waited.

Deuce In Your Shoes - Paige
Your sire, Amy Peters, one of the Brujah Primogen, looked at you from across the room. She had a hard look on her face, and as usual her suit was impeccable. Amy Peters was a hard nosed Brujah. She favored Tradition and knowledge over brute force, and there was an undeniable air of civility around her at all times, even when you knew she was teetering on the brink of Frenzy. Those moments when the Beast takes over, pushing her Humanity aside and the pure, violent, raging animal took over. You had seen it once or twice. Once it had lead to you having broken ribs and a smashed cheek bone, but it had healed. Still, the experience was traumatic at best.
Right now, you were discussing the finer points of the Masquerade. How not to get spotted by mortals for what you are. A blood sucking parasite cursed to live forever. You had to resent her for that, but at the same time, it was hard not to love her for it too. It was almost impossible to understand, to put a finger on. Something about her made her this immensely powerful force in your life.
"Paige, define Masquerade."
