Edge acted as though I was pouting. I was just being serious but I guess some people couldn’t tell the difference between a serious Alyssa and a sad one. Probably because I wasn’t serious very often. I shrugged at Edge. “What is that? Like at a bunch of Nosferatu that play football? You could always tell the media that you are a producer and you were filming some special effects. I’ve used that one before to clean up someone’s mess. Works pretty well if you can be convincing enough. Then you follow it up with a couple of super secret leaks the next day about the really cool new Terminator movie that was secretly filming a motorcycle chase in…wait for it…LA, California. Next week some kid will go missing or some farmer will have a two headed calf born, or something else sad or weird will happen and the whole thing will be forgotten. Humans are by and large stupid and self absorbed like that.”

I shrugged again. “I can be really convincing if you want my help. I don’t know the whole situation, but the movie filming lie usually works pretty well to smooth things over. Even in an out of the way, rainy place like Braddock. In California it should be an even easier sell. And I’ll take anyone’s number you think will make a good friend. I like know no one out here at the moment and the people you have mentioned that I do know all seem to have lost their old cell phones.”

Edge sighed when she saw you pout. "Alyssa, you didn't do anything wrong. It's just... It's just that I am working on a migraine." Edge looked at her phone. "You know what a coterie is, right? Well anyway, one of the gangs out here in L.A. - Kindred gangs I mean - is getting themselves in some shit. Have you ever heard of Team NOS?" You hadn't. What was Team NOS? A bunch of Nosferatu?

"Anyway... someone is impersonating them. While I was talking to you, I just got a text message that somebody has spotted them racing with a guy on a motorcycle. The motorcycle crashed... This could be a huge Masquerade mess." Edge sighed. She eyeballed her phone wearily. "I can hook you up with a couple contacts. You know Mary Jane, right? What about Alex? Uh... There's another Brujah, Gauge, and this Gangrel chick who likes to hang around him, and then run off when she gets bored, Jesse."

“Ok then.” I put my hands up and backed away from Edge. I wasn’t really sure what I had just done to set her off, but it was clear she wasn’t going to be much fun to hang out with any more.

“Sorry if I insulted you. That wasn’t my intent. Look if I can just get someone’s number from you so you aren’t like my only contact in LA anymore, then I will get out of your hair and leave you to solving all those problems.” I shrugged.

“And like I said before, you need anything I might be able to help you with just let me know. You know my number.”

Edge didn't quite growl but she pulled away from being hugged. She wasn't keen on your joking comments. "Alyssa, I take this stuff very seriously. It's funny that you don't, but when you insult me, it pisses me off. I don't want presents. I don't want hugs." Edge sighed. She was a Brujah. Brujah were like, bi-polar or something. "Look, I appreciate your effort, but seriously... no. Alyssa this city is different the Braddock. Kindred here aren't funny. Not normally anyway. This city is at war. The Sabbat is in town. Those Cathayans from Japan and China are around. The Werewolves are going crazy trying to kill everyone, and every time a kindred in this city has a problem, they come to me."

I gave Edge a hug and smiled at her.

“Oh! A real, live Fight Club? Like in that movie? Can I play too? That sounds like it would be sooooo much fun!” I clapped my hands together.

“Is there jello wrestling? I want to jello wrestle in purple grape jello with little pineapple chunks and hot girls in bikinis!”

Edge shook her head. "Nah. I don't do presents, Alyssa. I don't celebrate birthdays or Christmas or any of that stuff. It's all depressing and shit." Edge sighed sadly. "Well anyway. Check it out Alyssa. I'll go ahead and tell the Kingpin who you are and that you're in town. You might get messed with by other kindred, but if they do, just tell them you're under my protection. If they don't believe you because you're a Lasombra or some other reason, then tell them I said it's their ass in Fight Club." Edge nodded slowly and confidently. "That should settle it all."

I gave Edge a confused look. “What are you talking about? Logan’s not crazy or psychotic. He’s just misunderstood. Well maybe he was a little crazy when he embraced that whore Vanessa. I mean I never asked for a sister and she is such an idiot. You know, she becomes like this giant dinosaur thingy when she uses shadow form. It is soooo stupid. Why would you want to be a dinosaur? They are all like slimy and shit.”

I made a disgusted face. “I don’t know what Logan sees in her. I am just waiting for the day when he calls me up and says “Could you please dispose of that stupid, ugly, whore, disappointment that is the Lasombra dinosaur Vanessa?” and I am going to be all like “Sure thing Logan, I thought you would never ask!” and then I am going to take her and put her in a little tiny box and drown her in the middle of the Pacific Ocean!”

I smiled broadly. “Anyway, while I am here I need to give Tyler his present and I simply must go give Dragon a hug. I am sure he is missing me terribly. I really should stop by and say hi to Christian too. He’s a bit odd and he always smells like smoke, but if he doesn’t have Ashtray anymore then I really should bring him another. I mean if he is going to smoke all the time we can’t have him leaving ash all over town. Oh and Anna is here right? I have a present for her too. Very important that she gets it, very important. It could be a life and death situation, or not. Who knows?”

I frowned. “Aw, Edge. Your feelings must be hurt! I forgot to get you a present. When is your birthday? I will send you something extra special then to make up for it!”

Edge watched you go and get her phone. She shook her head when you ranted about Logan and he could smile. "I don't get it Alyssa. Why would you want to be all crazy and psychotic like your sire? It's not like that's a good thing." Edge looked at you a little more seriously then she usually did. "Here." Edge held her hand out for the phone. "Is there anyone else in town that you want to see? I wasn't planning on doing much. I was thinking of going to go ride out to the Team NOS HQ here in a bit. I heard that Eve and Christian are both in town. I want to be there in case any of them try something stupid. I should be free in a couple nights. I can hook you up with someone else in town if you want until then?" The last part was worded more as a question.

I walked over to the kitchen counter to look for Edge’s phone.
“That would be awesome. I’m telling you Braddock just isn’t the same without you guys. I didn’t think it could get any more dull then it already was, but sure enough…” I shrugged.

“Yeah I got a place set up. Don’t want to be caught outside in the sunny California sun. You’ll have to come over some time. Not that your place isn’t nice, but my place has a huge whirlpool tub and a TV that will make you think you are at the theater. When I finally meet some more people I am going to throw an uber cool party.”

I shrugged again. “I know not everyone gets along with Logan like I do but that is just because you all don’t understand him like I do. He’s really cool once you get to know him, but he is too busy being all aloof and mean so everyone is scared of him. But he is really cool, he really is, and I want to be just like him someday. Besides it makes me happy when he is happy. You may not believe it, but Logan can smile, I’ve seen him do it and he wasn’t even destroying something at the time!”

Edge laughed. Again. "You know, I could put you in touch with Tyler and maybe Dragon if you wanted. I'm sure they would both love to see you." Edge grinned evilly. "I'm sure Tyler would love his present, too. That spellbook thingy you got him was really funny." Edge leaned around the railing of the steps and pointed out towards the kitchen counter where she thought she left her phone. "I have his number in my phone. It's over there somewhere. As for missions? Nah. Not really, to tell you the truth. Out here, I try to keep as low of a profile as I can. You may not believe this, but I really don't like a lot of people being around me all of the time. I'm not like you, I guess." Edge made an expression that was somewhere between a sigh and shrug. "I'm not one to get a lot of attention. Anyway. Do you have somewhere to stay tonight?"

Edge listened to you talk about Logan. She frowned. "I'm not sure anyone can impress Logan, Alyssa. But...my real question is why? Why would you want too?"

I frowned. “Well that sucks. Did Christian finally stop smoking then?”

I shrugged. “I don’t really have any plans at the moment. I just figured I’d visit all my old friends and, oh, I have a present that I have been meaning to give Tyler. It has been a while since I last saw him, but I found the perfect gift for him! I’d like to see Dragon again too. I don’t think he had any kids in Braddock, but who knows, the Tremere were always so super secret about everything.” I giggled. “Oh to be a fly on Chantry walls!”

I shrugged again. “Other then that, I don’t know…you got any neato missions you need help on? Or maybe some baby vampires that need a friend? Logan says I should practice being a role model if I ever want to be a Prince like him.”

I leaned in and whispered, “I’m kinda trying to prove to Logan that I can stay out of trouble and be a good leader. Then maybe he’ll give me a position in Braddock or at least pay more attention to me. He can just be so hard to make proud, but I got a master plan to get his attention.” I nodded enthusiastically.

Edge nodded. She headed towards her staircase. She started moving up, plopping down on the fourth step while you went off elaborating on all of the neat and juicy details. "That's okay Alyssa. I don't think I have anything to worry about from Mages. I know who Christian is. He doesn't have the Ashtray anymore. I hear he's in town, believe it or not. So are Tyler and Dragon. I have an idea where they are staying, but I'm not sure. Dragon has a childe in town. Her name is Natalya. Did he have any childre when you knew him?"

Edge sighed and looked you over. "Alyssa, you haven't changed one bit. What do you think you're going to do while you're in town?"

“Who…is…Ashtray? How can you not know who Ashtray is?! Ashtray is only the coolest, sexiest, tastiest, specialist ghoul ever!” I paused, considering.

“Well except for my Julia. Yeah…don’t tell Julia I said that about Ashtray…that might hurt her feelings…actually I think she still doesn’t know she’s a ghoul so she wouldn’t know what you were talking about anyway. Huh, I wonder how long it will take before she realizes she isn’t getting any older. How many years have I had her now?” I stared off at the ceiling and started trying to count the years on one hand. Wow, time really ran together. Oh well, it probably wasn’t that important anyway and thinking about Julia and Ashtray was making me hungry.

“So yeah, you know Christian right? Ashtray is Christian’s…well she’s his ashtray. She can carry around an ashtray like no other human on this earth. She makes it look so sexy and sophisticated. Christian said I could have her, but Logan wouldn’t let me bring home any more pets. I mean I already had Julia and Shadow and Will and Melina and that one Toreador that use to follow me around everywhere whining, and those little black bouncy things that show up whenever I get attacked, and that other Ventrue or was he Nosferatu? That’s right he was a Nos cause he could do all sorts of tricks and make himself look like a dog. I mean the apartment WAS getting a bit crowded, but still I told him I would trade out the Toreador for Ashtray. Alas, Logan said no. He says no a lot. I think it is his favorite word.” I nodded my head thinking back over my conversations with Logan. “Yep, gotta be his favorite word.”

“Oh and the secret stuff is secret you know. Like the Masquerade, but called something different. I can’t remember what they call it, but it like means Super Secret Wizard Stuff That The Muggles Aren’t Supposed To Know. Will and Melina are my pet wizards but I gotta keep their secret you know cause they keep mine, and they are really handy if you ever need someone to watch you while you are sleeping. Besides they are like really fun to hang out with so I don’t want to make them mad at me. You know making a Wizard mad is not a very good idea. They kick vampire butt. I know, I seen Will do it. Well actually I didn’t see him do it, just heard it cause it was kind of dark and stuff. But you know you are like safer if you don’t know what I know, and I don’t want to put you in any danger Edge. Trust me, you’ll thank me when you don’t have those weird Wizard enemy Mormons showing up at your door in the middle of the night trying to give you some literature and take your head clean off.” I took a deep breath. Again with the questions that required such long explanations!

Edge laughed. In fact she laughed loud and hard. It was impossible for her to stop once you got her going. "Alyssa, you crack me up. It's good to see you. I never thought I'd ever laugh so hard ever -" Edge's brow furrowed. She looked thoughtful, and folded her arms. "Wait. Ashtray? Who is Ashtray?" Edge blinked. She clearly had no idea what you were talking about. "And you said secret stuff. What kind of secret stuff? Why can't you talk about it?"

“Of course I do, is there any other way for us to look? A world in which Edge and Alyssa weren’t hot would just be wrong and stupid. Besides I think I would probably put some poor kids in some 3rd world country out of business if I stopped buying super cool clothes. Nothing is made in America any more. Did you know that? It is all like imported from little places I have never heard of and Logan says I don’t want to go to.” I made a disgusted face.

“He’s always ruining my fun. See I had this idea that I could get all the clothes I wanted like before anyone else could even buy them in the stores if I went to the source. So I googled all my favorite companies and then found out where their factories were biased and started looking up flights to like all these places with names I can’t even begin to pronounce. But Logan caught me, like he always does, and was all like “why in the world would you want to go to there?” And I told him and he said “that’s nice dear, but no”.” I rolled my eyes.

“He’s probably worried that it isn’t safe. But come on! I’ve kicked ninja ass. Ninjas that were trying to eat me! What, he thinks I can’t take on some food deprived poor kids with sewing skills? They’d be happy to see me anyway. I was going to bring them hamburgers or something. But blah blah Logan is worried about the blah blah Sabbat and their stupid plot to rule the stupid world and apparently all the places where American companies outsource to.” I shook my head in agitation.

“So long story short I decided to come to LA instead. I figured that would show Logan! Now he’s going to miss me and stuff and he will be all sorry he didn’t just go with me to get the clothes in the first place. But blah blah he was too busy. Always with the too busy.” I sighed in exasperation.

Wait…that wasn’t what Edge had asked, was it?

“Oh yeah, escape…I escaped from boredom. Braddock is soooooo boring. Especially now that Logan is Prince. Like nothing goes on there any more. He’s like busy all the time and like nobody does anything cause they are all like scared he’ll lay the smack down on them if they have even a little bit of fun. And like all the cool people left. Like you and Dragon and Tyler and Ashtray. They all went poof! And with them any fun that was once had in that rainy city.” I took a little breath. I was getting light headed. Why did everyone always have to ask me questions that required such long explanations?

“Oh my god! Anna even left. It was awful! Like I had this problem and she wasn’t there and I like didn’t know who to call so I had to actually do something about it myself. Took up my whole night too, but of course there wasn’t anything else to do cause nothing was going on! Boredom is dangerous. Really, really dangerous. You’d be surprised just how dangerous being bored can be. Oh and I also escaped from The Men in Black. Wizard thing, can’t really talk about it. Super secret stuff.” I shrugged.

OOC - Lisa, if you want to colorize Alyssa's text, there is a button to do it. It's between the two capital "A"s to the left of the "Others" button up above the posts. Cyan is the same color as RPOL's Aqua.

"I haven't unpacked yet, but I'm not here very much either." Edge watched you look around. She closed the door. "All the cool stuff is upstairs though." Edge looked happy to see you. She came over to where you were at. "You look good Alyssa." Edge checked you out. It wasn't necessarily sexual - but who didn't want a super-sexy-hot-baby-bratty Lasombra? She was checking out how you were dressed. "Love the boots. Like the skirt, but I'd never wear one." Edge chuckled. "So how did you escape and what did you escape from? Sounds like it was dangerous."

I followed looking around Edge’s place and wondering if this was really where she stayed or just where she met people. I hoped she didn’t really live here. I mean come on. That couch looked like too many butts had sat on it, probably smelled like it too. And a card table in the dinning room? How ever could you entertain in a place as under furnished as this?

“I’ve been bored, that’s how I have been. I was kinda hoping you would know of something interesting going on. Cool clubs, juicy gossip, entertaining stories…come on Edge don’t let me down here!” I giggled. “I just escaped Braddock!”

Edge moved to the side and let you in. "No. Nothing is wrong. It's all good. I'm just always busy is all. You know how it is. Someone always has a problem they want me to fix." Edge touched the back of her hand to her forehead like you used to do. Then she sighed dramatically. Then Edge giggled.

She walked passed the small dining room that was more or less empty except for a card table and two chairs. Nearby was an old couch worn on the left side. There was a coffee table and two old lazy boy chairs that have seen better decades. There was a staircase that went up on one side and down on the other in the back corner. Edge didn't seem to have a lot of stuff. "Come on in. How ya been? Anything interesting happen? You fed yet tonight?"

Why didn’t anyone have those cool doorbells like they sold on TV late at night? The ones that played cool little tunes or announced in a robotic voice that someone was at the door. Stupid, cheap, generic doorbells. I pushed it three more times just to be spiteful. I hated doorbells, from now on I was knocking. Stupid Porsche with no roof too. I dared someone to try to steal it again. The last time I caught a guy trying to do that I convinced him to be my chauffeur for the night. I can be really, really convincing when I want to.

Edge’s face appearing in the window jolted me out of my thoughts, but the smile was still plastered on my face. Good times.

“Hey Edge! I got bored with Braddock, heard LA was the place to be and well you’re here, so it must be.” I noticed how Edge was blocking the door and craned my neck to try to get a glimpse around her. She had invited me over but wasn’t inviting me in. Weird.

“Everything ok?”

The doorbell was one of those annoying doorbells that made a funny ding-aling-aling-dong sounds. It would have been really annoying to press the button like five or six times. Of course, then it struck you as odd. You just bleeped on the alarm of your car, a Porsche convertable. If somebody was determined (or stupid) enough to try and steal your car, then they would probably be able to do it, yanno, because there weren't any windows or a roof.

It took Edge a minute. You saw her as she peeked out the window at you. She was on the phone, or at least she was on a cellphone. You easily heard the door unlock. You also easily heard her say something in one of those funny Asian languages you didn't know, and then hang up the phone. Edge opened the door and half stepped out. She half held it.

Edge was wearing a pair of little grey shorts and a plain white T-shirt. Her hair was parted down the middle and fell off over both of her shoulders. Edge had her silver studs in her left eyebrow. She didn't look agitated, but she did look a little giddier then normal. Maybe it was just because she was happy to see you. "Hey Alyssa! What's up? I haven't seen you in a long time."

Ok so riding with the top down was fun, but it was also incredibly messy. Stupid wind messing up your hair. Stupid bugs getting in your messed up hair. Stupid guy in the car in front of you flicking ash out his window and trying to set you on stupid fire. But at least it wasn’t rain. Thank god it wasn’t rain.

I pulled up along side what could only have been Edge’s car. Edge had style, not as much style as I had of course, but it was style none-the-less. Besides, she always had great boots. She got extra points for that. I turned off the car and got out. With a nifty little beepity-beep the car was locked and I strode up the short walk to Edge’s townhouse door. After a second of consideration I decided to ring the doorbell. Knocking was so undignified and it hurt my knuckles.

Your Porsche was the shit. It had been a while since you'd gotten to ride it with the top down. Braddock was always so rainy. It was wet, cloudy, dismal, and a lot of times, it was not fun at all. But California? California was different. The night sky was just as dark as you would have expected on any other night, but more importantly, it was a nice 79 degrees with about 12% humidity. You had the top down. You even had that song from the Smashing Pumpkins on, the one about the world being a vampire.

Edge told you to meet her at her place. Edge's place was a townhouse smushed in the middle of one on each side. Lights were on. Edge's black Camaro was out front.
