Re: Blue Booking Forum
O leaned over his Saitek Cyborg keyboard typing commands into the program he had written four months ago to help manage the security of ShreckNET. The system had been down in different phases for six minutes, nothing down longer than 30 seconds. The only one he ever worried about was taking the security offline so he could update the algorithms for encryption, firewalls, and adjust the filters to better work with the patches he put out to the rest of the system. Right now, he had the system backing up onto a RAID 60 Array. Being the global hub for ShreckNET was demanding, and he had ghouls, and Kindred counterparts across the globe helping him, but O was the primary sytem Admin, which meant the bulk of the work was done here.
When Lixin had first popped on the system she had revealled very little about herself, barring a mangled mess of broken firewalls and bypassed protocols. O had been taken aback for a moment when his cellphone blew up. She had made it into the servers specifically dealing with their wireless N cameras placed throughout the city. O had known they were especially vulnerable when the security went down for updates (wireless devices always were) so he had managed to set the necessary systems up so that he could do the uploads in small pieces. Most of this was just a matter of him getting up and moving to another room and plugging in a flashdrive. However there were seventy cameras that constantly gave live feeds where the data was being recorded. Those cameras could not be brought down, and it was the servers handling those that Lixin had almost stumbled into. His phone ringing was actually a security admin in San Francisco who was working for him on a contract basis there TechCore, the company O ran from his home here below the sewers of NYC. The Admin had also spotted Lixin, and couldn't stop her...
O flexed a little muscle, finally traced back her IP to her ISP, and from there it was easy to get her address. He then jumped over to the power company and set off their system, flagging that area as being surged. They responded by reducing power to the area, which caused a brown out, killing Lixin's system. All of this happened in less than a minute. Which was a fact O was particularly proud of. That meant worse case scenario, anyone attacking ShreckNET had 60 seconds to get through his security, find and retrieve the data they wanted, and get out before O could find them and retaliate.
Now, he sat there hunched over his keyboard, Marilyn Manson blasting in his ears through his Logitech headphones, and speaking with Lixin. His first thought was to send Maul over to her house and straighten her out. Instead, Genny had gotten the job and from the text message he just got, was encountering a problem with the neighbor's dog....
O grinned to himself. Tonight was turning out to be rather interesting indeed...
