The Rock aka Deadalus Federal Penitentiary
The Rock is a maximum security penitentiary, hollowed out from the inside of an asteroid. Time spent here is hard time. All of the Alliance's hard case prisoners are transferred here eventually. Anyone the Alliance wants to forget about is delivered here. Anyone sent here is forgotten. It's a black hole from which very few have returned....and none have escaped...or so it is said.
Security is tight. Prisoners are allowed no personal possessions. Media is delivered to readers set in the walls. Everyones choice of media is monitored and nothing salacious is available. Likewise, nothing that would be of material help is available (no primers on explosives). Prisoners get two 1 hour breaks a day in a closely monitored exercise area. Breaks are staggered so that you'll only meet the same crowd once every 5 days. Meals are served 3 times a day, again each meal break is staggered. Due to chronic lack of water, showers are only allowed once per week. Overcrowding is not a problem at the rock. Normally cells are shared. Ech cell is rather forboding. The paint scheme is dull grey. The beds are stored in a bunk configuration. A commode is available in each cell. Each cell gets thoroughly searched once every two weeks. The media outlet is set in the wall and voice activated. It cannot be turned off. Most of the time it shows uplifting programming of the wardens choice. The warden thinks religious programming is the choice that most of the prisoners would prefer. After you've been here for even a week, you know the words of the program and Shepherd Hartmann off by heart. Paper books are not available.
The prison has four main sections, GenPopMale, GenPopFemale, Political and Admin. Together, GenPopFemale and Political are around half the size of GenPopMale. Every prisoner gets a brief look at Admin on arrival and then will only see if it again if the prisoner is up for parole. While the genders are segregated for purposes of accomodation, meal times and exercise breaks are mingled. The prison guards do not allow prisoners to be intimate with one another, though there's always talk of someone bribing the guards to do so. Any same sex relationships (that they find out about) will also be broken up.
Deliveries to the station of prisoners are made once a month. Supply deliveries, once a week. The prison guards for the most part are retired Alliance squaddies. For the most part they are relaxed, but vigilant. There are one or two bad apples fond of using violence and one or two more approachable than most for special favours and considerations. The Rock is highly factionalised.

Re: The Rock aka Deadalus Federal Penitentiary
Factions
Browncoats - This is the most organised faction, consisting of ex Browncoat PoW's conveniently forgotten about at the end of the war. Ostensibly they're being detained for investigation of war crimes. General Gibson is in charge of this faction. He has a stunning strategic mind. It is often rumoured that if he hadn't been caught the war would still be ongoing. This faction is highly rigid in structure. No-one crosses it. The browncoats always defend their own, no matter how small. As a result of this the browncoats are mostly left alone. The problem with this is that the rank and file have little influence over the overall browncoat strategy. Gibson's word is law.
The Forgotten - This is the Political's main faction. Heavily characterised by infighting, they still maintain a strong front to outsiders. They're normally segregated from the rest of the prisoners to stop them from sowing dissent amongst the general population. These guys know they're here to stay....and show a frightening propensity towards violence. There's no real clear leader of this faction, leadership is held by a committee. They seem to have the most ties into the outside world and have the best connections to get illicit items from outside the station after the guards. They have the stations most accomplished forger. "Toolbox" Hensen.
Purity of Thought - This faction's obejctive remain largely unclear. Its members are characterised by forming part of a collective. They stand out by shaving their heads. A prison tattoo with a number on it indicates who the person is. They do not respond to their names, but will respond only to their number or their prison identity. They're very hard to talk to, emotionally cold and distant. They have some form of goal and work towards it steadily.
The Neds - This faction consists of a lot of the recent inmates. They have very little cohesion forming a loose coalition. They're feared throughout the prison for their complete lack of fear. They will willingly attack the guards for no reason. They're not highly regarded and have few scruples unlike most of the other factions. They have no sense of honor and may break their word at any moment for any reason. They have a habit of trying to count coup on the guards. Something which makes the guards very edgy with the Neds.
The Wei Clan - This family consists of members of the Wei Triad. They don't normally socialise very much, but they're well connected in terms of news and gossip. They have a large organisation outside the prison. They're content for the most part to spend their time at the Rock, knowing their families and loved ones will be well cared for on the outside. There's a small subgroup of the Wei Clan that is inside for "Acts of domestic terrorism", during the forced relocation of the Wei Clan from Persephone, a subset resorted to using explosives as a form of protest towards the government. Word is they can make just about anything explode.
